Capt. Steve Barnes
1-866-PRO-GUIDE
March 31,2004
I did some scouting today and it paid of, we should have a good trip tomorrow. I
caught lots of 5-7 LB fish. I have this Friday and Saturday open if anyone
wants to catch some good size fish.
March 30,2004
Slower today for me. 12 Striper ,one 4 LB largemouth , and one Gaspergoo.
I need to get out and look around by myself tomorrow and see if I can do
something different . Fishing should Improve in the next week or two.
March 29,2004
Slow today but we got a limit.

March 27,2004
Fished a group of 3 on Texoma for Striper. Fishing was slow but we finally ended
up with a limit of fish. The fish are not stacked up like they were and that is
a good thing for the lake. The fish were stacked up because they were staying
away from the golden algae bloom we had, the water has cleared up and the fish
moved back into the areas where the bloom occurred. When the water warms a
little more it should be some great fishing from mid April to July.

March 26,2004
Took a road trip yesterday looking for some trophy Striper but they were not
there yet. I will probably go look again next week. Fishing on the lake was very
good this week from what I have heard. I am fishing the lake in the morning.
Sunday is open if anyone wants it.
March 21,2004
Fished from 2:30 to 6:30 today and caught 35 Striper with a few over 20" fish.
We fished about 2 hours with bait and 2 hours with sassy shad. Caught about 15
on bait and 20 on sassy shad.

March 20, 2004
The fish have been moving into shallower water due to the water warming up. The
deep water fishing out in the river channel was good till last Wednesday, now
the fish are moving up onto the flats. Fished a group of 2 this morning and it
was pretty slow but we did manage about 20 fish on bait and sassy shad. Fished a
group of 6 this afternoon and the fishing was good for about a hour then the
wind quit and the bite slowed to almost nothing , ended up with 46 fish.

March 19,2004
Morning trip cancelled. Fished a group of 2 in the afternoon and it was
real slow for us, ended up with 14 striper and one big crappie. It could have
been worse because I talked to another guide and they ended up with one striper
and one catfish, ouch.
March 18,2004
Another tough day for me out west, maybe I should try up north. 2 man trip in
the morning, ended up with 15 striper and missed a lot of bites. Only 25 fish on
the afternoon trip.

March 17,2004
What a difference a day can make. Fishing was tough today. Fished a group of 4
this morning and only caught about 20 Striper then fished a group of 3 in the
afternoon and caught 21. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

March 16,2004
Headed strait to the spot where we have been catching them for a week now but
when we got there the place was deserted, we did not mark a single fish. The
golden algae moved in and the fish moved out. We found them about a mile to the
northeast and the fishing was really good. Here is a pic of what your graph
should look like when you are on the Striper. The right side of the screen is
the sonar side, the left side is the map.

March 15,2004
Anchored up in 50 foot deep water and caught a easy limit on live shad. 60 fish
in the box. Spring break is here so lets go fishing.

March 13,2004
Waited on the rain to stop this morning then we went out a caught a quick limit
of box fish, only 1 over 20". We looked for some bigger fish for about a hour
but never did get any. We should start catching some bigger fish on bait as soon
as it warms up a little.

March 12,2004
Fished a group of 3 this morning on Texoma. The fish were hitting fast and we
caught about 40 in one hour, then we started throwing jigs and caught a few more
but no big fish. This afternoon I loaded up 9 kids and 3 adults to help with the
kids. We ran out of bait in about 2 hours with 82 fish in the box.

March 11,3004
Fishing was a little slow today but we ended up catching about 40 Striper. We
caught 20 small fish on bait early then we caught about 20 more on jigs. Only 3
over 20" fish and they were caught on jigs.

March 10,2004
We have a major golden algae bloom on Texoma right now. Golden Algae is toxic to
fish and is a real threat to the fishery but for now the fishing is as good as
it gets for March. The striper will stay away from the algae bloom and this
forces them to crowd up in the unaffected water which makes for really good
fishing. We fished bait in 57 ft of water today. We caught a bunch but
they were small. Tomorrow we may fish some shallow water for some bigger fish,
we would have today but we got a late start.

March 8,2004
The striper bite is on. I caught about 30 this morning to 9 LBS by myself. I
plan on fishing late this evening for some bigger fish if I can find some good
bait.
March 6,2004
Fished the river today with some guys that really wanted to ride in a airboat,
we got that done but we did not catch many fish. 15 LBS was the biggest cat. We
missed our chance at the big fish, we had two big fish bites but did not land
either one.

March 2,2004
Striper fished on the lake yesterday and caught my limit of striper up to 9 LBS.
Caught some on bait and some on lures. Ended up catching about 20, not to bad
since I have not been on the lake in 3 months. If you want to go striper fishing
and spend some time on the water this is the time. If you want to go striper
catching and get of the water early then wait till may.
February 29,2004
Fished the river the last couple of days. No big cats just spoonbill. Winter
catfishing is officially over. I will still do a few river trips but next week I
will start Striper fishing.

Looks like we may get some good weather this week.

February 13,2004
All I had to do today was catch 1 fish over 40. I should have went to the last
spot first. We finally got a 46 LB cat at about 3 PM. The pics are in my camera
but will not download for some reason, maybe I can fix the problem later.
I had to go buy a card reader but I finally got the pics downloaded . The moral
of this story is never trust your guide to take your pics of a big fish.

February 10,2004
Finished up filming with In-Fisherman today. We did not get the big one we were
wanting but we did catch a few fish with one good one that was 30 LBS. Here is a
pic of Doug Stange holding the 30 LB cat we caught today.

February 9,2004
Started filming a show with In-Fisherman today. Our biggest today was 32 LBS. I
hope we can finish up with a big one tomorrow.

February 8,2004
The fishing picked up today for some reason. We kept 13 fish from 4- 10 LBS and
released 4 more that were 13 to 27 LBS.

February 6,2004
The catfishing is still slow on the river. Spring is just around the corner and
should get the fish to moving around. As soon as the weather gets a little
better I am going to start Striper fishing, hopefully by the middle of the
month.
February 4,2004
Fished yesterday but it was slow only 3 cats to 16 LBS. I am booked everyday
right now but it looks like the weather and poor fishing conditions will cause
some cancellations. I am ready for spring.
January 29,2004
Better today but still way to slow. One 33 LB Cat and one small cat. Snagged a
few spoonbill.

January 28,2004
Fished the same section of river as yesterday but only caught 2 small cats.

get on the river. We should be catching some big cats in the next few days.

January 24,2004

like rain tomorrow, maybe it will hold off until the afternoon.

January 22,2004
Good day on Red River today. We caught about 15 Cats. We hooked a 22 and a 36 at
the same time then about 10 minutes later we hooked into a 60 LB Blue Cat.

January 21,2004
I fished this afternoon with Fox 4 News . They are going to air a story about my
river guide service.
January 20,2004
Fished out west on the Red River today. We caught 15 cats, two were big, a 25
and a 51 LB Blue Cat.

January 19,2004
It was a little cold today but at least the sun was out. We ended up with a 50
and a 20 LB cat and a few smaller ones. We also snagged a few spoonbill but they
were kind of small.

January 18,2004
Rain knocked us out the last 2 days and the wind was bad today but we went
anyway. We were confined to a few protected areas today trying to stay out of
the cold wind. We hung 4 big cats but only landed 2, one was 20 LBS and one 30
LBS.

January 15,2004
A few cats today up to 25 LBS. Snagged some spoonbill and a big gator gar but we
lost the big gar.

January 14,2004

January 11,2004
We found one good hole on the river today and pulled 15 cats in about 45
minutes. The biggest ones were 43,37, and 22 LBS.

January 10,2004
Slow day on the river. We only caught 3 catfish but one was big, 42 LBS. Snagged
a few spoonbill from my spoonbill hole and found a new hole that has a lot of
spoonbill. We also snagged a big gator gar and had him up to the boat several
times but the hook finally pulled out.

January 9,2004
The North wind was cold today. Caught big catfish that went 41 LBS and missed
another big fish. Quit early at 12:30 .

January 8,2004
Fished Red River west of Texoma today. There seems to be a lot of fish out west
but I don't think there are as many big fish. We caught about 20 today from 4-10
LBS. There are tons of gar out west so we snagged a few.
January 7,2004
It has been to cold to fish the last few days and was to cold today but we went
anyway. Tough fishing but we finally caught a 42 LB Blue Cat. We also caught a
few small fish and everyone caught a paddlefish.

January 4,2004
